When a listener can't hear the translation, it's usually something simple on their phone. Walk them through these in order and it's nearly always one of them.
Quick checks
- Turn up the phone's volume, and make sure it's the media volume, not just the ringer.
- Some phones need a tap on the play button to start the audio. Look for a play control on the page and tap it.
- Make sure the browser is allowed to play audio. If a permission prompt appeared and was dismissed, the audio may be blocked.
- Refresh the page. This re-establishes the connection and clears most glitches.
- Confirm they actually selected a language and chose to listen rather than read.
Still nothing?
- Have them try the captions view instead of audio to confirm they're connected to the service at all. If captions work, it points to an audio or volume setting on their device.
- Switching from WiFi to cellular data (or the reverse) can help if their connection is weak. Glossa uses very little data.
- Earbuds or headphones can make a noisy room much easier, and rule out a faulty phone speaker.
