My stream won't start

What to check when you press start and nothing happens, or Glossa won't pick up your audio.

If you can't get your stream going, it's usually the browser, the microphone permission, or the input selection. Run through these and you should be live.

Step through these

  1. Use Google Chrome. Glossa works best in Chrome, and other browsers can behave unexpectedly.
  2. Host from a laptop or desktop, not a phone. Streaming works far more reliably from a computer.
  3. Check your microphone permission. Chrome needs permission to access your audio input. See "Granting microphone permissions for Chrome" in the Getting set up collection.
  4. Make sure the right audio input is selected in the dropdown. If nothing is selected, or the wrong device is, Glossa has nothing to listen to.
  5. Confirm your input device is plugged in and recognized by your computer, then refresh the page so it appears in the dropdown.

If it still won't start

Close other apps that might be using the microphone or audio device, refresh the page, and try again. If you recently changed cables or devices, reconnect them before refreshing so Chrome sees them fresh.
