Route audio playing on your Windows PC into Glossa using the free VB-Audio Cable.

VB-Audio Cable is a free virtual audio cable for Windows. It carries audio from your computer (for example from OBS or a media player) into Glossa, so you don't need any extra hardware.

Step 1: Install VB-Audio Cable

  1. Download VB-CABLE from the VB-Audio website. It's free (donationware).
  2. Unzip it, right-click the installer, and choose Run as administrator.
  3. Restart your computer after installing. You'll now have two new audio devices: CABLE Input (a playback device) and CABLE Output (a recording device).

Step 2: Send your audio into the cable

Route the audio you want to translate to CABLE Input:

  • For all system sound, right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar, open Sound settings, and set your output device to CABLE Input.
  • For a single app, use Volume mixer to set just that app's output to CABLE Input.

Step 3: Keep hearing the audio yourself

Because the sound is now going into the cable, you won't hear it until you pass it through to your speakers:

  1. Open Sound settings, then More sound settings, then the Recording tab.
  2. Right-click CABLE Output, choose Properties, then the Listen tab.
  3. Check Listen to this device and pick your speakers or headphones below. Apply.

Step 4: Select the cable in Glossa

  1. Open your service in Chrome.
  2. In the audio input dropdown, choose CABLE Output.
  3. Confirm the level indicator responds, then start your stream.

If you need to mix several sources

If you want to combine a microphone and media audio, or have more control over routing, Voicemeeter (also from VB-Audio) is a free virtual mixer that does this well. It has a steeper learning curve, so only reach for it if a single cable isn't enough.

One more note: if other apps get quieter while Glossa is running, that's Windows audio ducking, and it has a quick fix in the Troubleshooting category under "Windows lowers my other apps' volume."
